How do you get hundreds of extras to act like zombies? Take her to school.
When the news came that Zack Snyder was tackling another zombie movie, my heart jumped. I think directors emerging from large franchises need palate cleaners that bring them back to what they love about directing so they can tap into their roots.
For Zack Snyder, he has the opportunity to apply all of his blockbuster lessons to the genre that helped him break out of music videos.
One of the biggest lessons he learned was dealing with huge extras. To the Army of the DeadSnyder really was the general of this army. How do you deal with all these people who act like zombies? Some schooling is required.
Zack Snyder and his wife and production partner, Deborah Snyder, spoke to the recently Boston Herald about the 200 extras in the film.
Deborah Snyder said, “For the zombie hordes, we had a zombie school where the stunt team, who already knew how to move like a zombie, taught 200 extras. They didn’t have the training that the stunt people did so we had to teach them how to move and act like a zombie. ”
Zack Snyder explained why making zombie films is so fun. “The fun of the zombie genre is that the audience is in front of you,” he said. “Shoot them in the head.” “What if you get bitten by a zombie, do you become a zombie?” ‘Absolutely.'”
Snyder continued, “People know. So that’s fun … In a lot of ways, it’s like doing a western or something. There are certain things and those are the rules that you have to do. You need to deconstruct and undermine expectations. If you think it’s a possibility, that’s how you have to take it. ”
Do you look forward to seeing these trained zombies battle Vegas with Snyder’s crazy visual styles?
