Saif Ali Khan is one of those Bollywood actors who cannot stay away from controversies. From the appointment of his eldest son Taimur to his remarks on Ravan to his web show Tandav, the 50-year-old actor never shies away from expressing his take on anything and everything. Today we remind you of the time when netizens protested after Saif and his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan named their eldest son Taimur.
Netizens criticized the couple for naming their son Taimur and associated him with Timur, the founder of the Timurid Empire in Persia and Central Asia that invaded India in 1938.
A few months later, Kareena Kapoor Khan spoke about the appointment of her son Taimur with her husband Saif Ali Khan and told PTI: “What happened about his name was just horrible. It was disgusting and I will never forget it. It obviously made a deep impression on me as a person, as a mother. What I call my child, what I call him, is entirely my discretion and does not concern anyone else.
Later in an interview with the Delhi Times, Saif broke his silence over the name controversy and said, “I thought about changing my name for a second. For a few weeks. And Kareena was a little against it and she said, “People respect you for your opinion and you can’t”… So I said, yes, but it’s not about people. I don’t want him to become unpopular. And I still could, maybe when he’s a year or two, I could change his name in a while, it just keeps flowing, what to do.
Taimur Ali Khan is now 4 years old and the couple have not changed their names. Recently, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan welcomed their second child – a son and have yet to reveal the name to fans or the media.
