Robin Williams channeled POPEYE when he first met TWIGGY’s daughter.

The 71-year-old British model starred alongside the tragically deceased actor in 2014 at the age of 63 in Club Paradise in 1986. She recalled how Robin Williams got into his title role as a sailor strong from the Disney version of the 1980 live-action comic when he met his daughter Carly.

Speaking on the Tea With Twiggy podcast, she said, “She couldn’t believe she was going to meet Popeye.

Adding more about Robin Williams becoming Popeye again, Twiggy said, “And I told him because he had met her after – we went out there to the Caribbean and I had met Robin before that.” She continued, “So when he met Carly he just went into Popeye mode, it was absolutely awesome.”

Twiggy was opening up to her guest Brooke Shields, who remembered the first time she met Robin Williams on the set of the beloved sitcom Mork & Mindy – which ran from 1978 to 1982 – when she was still a child star.

She remembers, “I went to the set to meet him because I was obsessed with him. My mom said, ‘Okay, we can go, we’re going to be in California, you can go to the set.’

“So I went to the set and she gave me access or whatever to the floor.” I met him and he was very nice to me, but he was very calm. I wanted to make him laugh. I thought I had to make him laugh… I realized later when I analyzed that I needed his approval.

She continued, “It was so interesting because I went to my mom and said, ‘I don’t think he likes me’. Watch out, he was working – it wasn’t really about me. Try to tell a kid that – I know it now. “

When she told her mother Teri Shields about it, she was unimpressed and confronted Robin Williams about it – although there was a very simple explanation. She added, “He said, ‘Hey kid sure I like you, I’m just a little shy when I meet someone new.’ “

Shields described Robin Williams as “tortured and awesome”. She said, “Some kind of tortured and genius. I think the genius and the ability – to see the world the way he did must have been like a stab in his heart every day. “(CDG / BAN / CDG)
