Robert Downey Jr, well known for his role as Tony Stark / Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, is celebrating his 56th birthday today. On this day, we reveal to you that he was an avid fan of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. Surprising isn’t it? Scroll down to find out more.

In 2010, the actor, in a conversation with a major daily, said he became a fan of Aamir Khan after watching the Oscar nominated film Lagaan, released in 2001. The film was directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar and the music was composed by AR Rahman.

Speaking to the Bombay Times, Robert Downey Jr said: “I once saw Lagaan and believed that Aamir Khan was extraordinary. India is a land waiting for me and I would love to visit it as soon as I get the chance. All that comes to my mind when I hear about this country is the diversity, vibrancy and boogie of Bollywood.

In 2021, the actor did not have the chance to visit the country. In 2019, while promoting Avengers: Endgame, he said he was grateful to his Indian fans. During a press conference with fan groups in several Indian cities, the actor was apparently humbled by the fan’s reaction. He said, “Wow… I can’t believe it… It’s amazing. I am moved. I will bow to you… It is deeply appreciated. You are just amazing fans. I look forward. I can’t believe I haven’t been to India. I arrive so quickly.

In the 2017 MCU film Spider-Man: Homecoming, the actor shot a scene in which he was attending an Indian wedding. However, the scene was not shot in India.
