Navjot Singh Sidhu has had a very controversial life. Known for his energetic nature, the cricketer turned politician is often found in the midst of controversy due to his unfiltered tongue. The 57-year-old politician once made derogatory comments about a woman mayor in Indore and received negative reactions about it.
This happened in 2018 during the electoral rally in Indore ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly ballot.
Navjot Singh Sidhu engaged in a verbal argument with Indore Mayor Malini Lakshmansingh Gaur for his comments on the demolition campaign in the city without paying compensation.
He said: “Taali thoko aur iske sath mahapaur ko bhi thoko” (also clap and hit the mayor), as reported by Financial Express. For those of you who don’t know, “Taali thoko (applaud)” is Navjot’s slogan.
BJP chief Mayor Malini Lakshmansingh Gaur called Navjot Singh Sidhu “Mr. stupid ”and asked for an apology for his derogatory remarks.
Later that same year, the politician attended the 7th Khushwant Singh Literature Festival in Kasauli and said, “When I go to South India, I can barely understand a word except two-three like vadakkam. I agree with the food there. I can have dishes like idli but I cannot have South Indian cuisine for long. This culture is totally different. But if I go to Pakistan, they speak Punjabi and English and I can relate to them better.
Now the BJP and AIADMK have criticized the leader for his comparative statement of South India with Pakistan.
Navjot Singh Sidhu who was a permanent guest at the Kapil Sharma Show has been replaced by Archana Singh for his comments on the Pulwama attack.
