It’s Amber Heard’s birthday today, and we’ve decided to celebrate it by telling you about the time she fell in love with other people’s opinions. While the actress still makes headlines for her bitter relationship with ex-husband Johnny Depp, there was a time when she was in the news due to her sexuality.

Although the actress didn’t identify as bi, she once opened up about the advice people had given her when she decided to talk about her sexuality. Read on to find out all she had to say.

In a conversation with Allure in November 2017, Amber Heard spoke of people advising her not to come out of the closet about her sexuality. Actress Aquaman told the magazine, “I love who I love. I was dating a woman and people started taking pictures of us walking to our car after dinner. I [was] holding her hand, and I realized I had two options: I can let go of her hand and, when asked about it, I can say my privacy is my privacy. Or I couldn’t let go and own it.

Speaking of the advice people she knew gave her, Amber Heard said, “Everyone said to me, ‘You can’t do this.’ I had played against Nicolas Cage [in one movie], and in another I was playing opposite Johnny. And everybody said, ‘You throw it all away. You can’t do that to your career. And I said, “I can’t do it any other way. Look at me.'”

The Rum Diary actress further added that “ these people ” even pointed out that no other working romantic actor has ever talked about their outdoor quality. She said, “I didn’t go out. I have never been in it. It’s limiting, this LGBTQ thing. It has served as an umbrella for marginalized people who were denied rights, but it is losing its effectiveness due to the nuanced nature of humanity.

Amber Heard added, “As we become more educated and develop the facts of our nature, we keep adding letters. It was a big shield, but now we’re stuck behind it. It is so important to resist labels. I don’t care how many letters you add. At some point it will be written: “WE ARE HUMAN”.

Happy birthday, Amber Heard.
