In a 2020 interview with Hindustan Time, Amar Upadhyay was candid about leaving Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi for the movies. He said, “I don’t regret anything. If I hadn’t made this decision, I would always have regretted not accepting films from great directors like JP Dutta. I made a movie with Paresh Rawal ji, Waah Waah Ramji, then I did Dhundh The Fog. If I hadn’t accepted the offers, I certainly would have regretted it later.
Explaining the real reason for the show’s exit, Amar Upadhyay said, “There were dating issues and there were conflicts, so I had to leave Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. I do not regret having made this decision because, at that time, the decision was right. No one has seen the future, so we can’t predict what’s going to happen.
While stating that making these films was a “ learning experience ” for him, he said he never knew what to expect in the future. Speaking of his decision further, he added, “Plus this time around I didn’t have a godfather in the movies to guide me. There was no one to tell me that I shouldn’t leave Kyunki for movies or if I was choosing the right scripts. I had to learn from my own experiences and failures. “
