It was in 2005 when Amitabh Bachchan with Black not only won hearts but also gave himself a national award. It was the Sanjay Leela Bhansali saga with Rani Mukerji as a deaf and mute girl inspired by Hellen Keller. There weren’t many people who weren’t moved by it. One of them was Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.
Aamir, in his firm stance against the film, called him insensitive and said he could not imagine the circumstances shown in the film happening in real life. The actor didn’t stop there but continued to label Big B’s performance as exaggerating. And as expected, this elicited a reaction from Mr Bachchan. Read on to find out what the two have to say.
It all started when in a blog post about Black and Amitabh Bachchan in the film, Aamir Khan wrote: “My big exception to Black is the fact that a child with serious difficulties is shown to be abused instead of lovingly treated, care and understanding. I just can’t accept that no matter what the writer and director say in defense.
Speaking to the Mumbai Mirror later, the actor bluntly said he didn’t like Black and found him insensitive. “I didn’t like the film. I found him very insensitive, he sends very bad signals. It was extremely manipulative. I could see the effort in the manipulation, and the director’s art is not to let you see the manipulation, ”said Aamir Khan.
He added, “The sensitivity was not right for me, I couldn’t tell if they lived in a house or a museum or a library or a church. The performances were exaggerated. Most importantly, it was about a kid who had these issues, some alcoholic person comes in and says you have to leave them alone with me for forty days, and he slaps her.
It was obvious that Amitabh Bachchan will defend his film by speaking to Mid-day, he said, “If Aamir is not happy with this, let him demonstrate otherwise. I would be eager and eager to find out about any possible changes he might introduce in the cinema. With all due respect, all of the movies he’s starring in that I’ve had the great pleasure of watching have all adhered to the very qualities that he doesn’t like about Black. From the use of the distinct handicap, or being politically correct, the contested condition, of a crippled human on his cricket team in Lagaan, to the “sensibilities” of a blind girl in Fanaa.
Taking a dig at Aamir Khan’s remark, Big B concluded, “I can’t say if my performance was awesome or not, but Aamir might be right about the other, maybe the performances are gone. ” over his head!” ‘
