The Late Late Show with James Corden pulled off a major coup by winning an interview with Prince Harry just days after news of his formal withdrawal from the British Royal Family was announced.
The Duke of Sussex joined Corden on an open-top bus tour of Los Angeles, sipping tea and taking in sights such as the Banks family home of The prince of Bel-Air. The 17-minute streak culminates in the pair tackling a military assault course.
In genuinely revealing exchanges, Prince Harry talks about dating Meghan Markle, from his take on The crown and the media, Zoom with Queen Elizabeth II, and first word from her son Archie. Along the way it envelops the Fresh prince theme and reveals that the Queen gave Archie a waffle iron for Christmas.
Reflecting on his separation from the royal family, which saw him and Markle move to Los Angeles and sign deals with Netflix and Spotify, Harry said: “It was a step back rather than resigning. It was a really tough environment, as a lot of people saw it. We all know what the British press can look like and it was destroying my sanity.
“I was like, ‘this is toxic,’ so I did what any husband and any dad would do, I was like, ‘I have to get my family out of here.’ We never left and as far as I’m concerned, no matter what decisions are made on that side, I’ll never walk away. I will always contribute, but my life is public service, so wherever I am in the world it will be the same.
