Vivek Oberoi recalls his first day of filming with Sanjay Dutt for Shootout At Lokhandwala: Bollywood News

Shootout in Lokhandwala, released on May 25, 2007, was one of the most iconic gangster films in Bollywood history. Vivek Anand Oberoi, who played cult character Maya Dolas, received huge praise for the role. It was also the first time he made a film with the legendary Sanjay Dutt. On the film’s 14th anniversary, Vivek got nostalgic and shared an incident from the first day of filming Shootout in Lokhandwala.

“The very first day I toured with the legendary Sanjay Dutt was a clash between our characters – the encounter cop and gangster Maya bhai. I was, of course, super nervous. I mean “baba bhai”, as we affectionately call it, was a childhood icon for me! He was larger than life, ”said Vivek.

Recounting an incident during his school years, Vivek said, “It took me back in time to when I was a boarding student at the prestigious Mayo College in Ajmer. My father was filming nearby in Jaipur and decided to surprise me by visiting me at school. It was an amazing surprise to see dad, but what shocked me was seeing long haired Sanjay Dutt get out of the car. He was touring with dad and decided to come and say “hello”. Even then, he was the cutest guy ever. I remember my mauka pe chauka moment, I asked Baba Bhai if he wanted to come with me for ten minutes to see the Mayo Girls School right in front. It was epic! When he entered with me, the doors opened. The chowkidars were just standing there agape. The girls got ballistic and I felt like a king! For months after that day, I still basked in his borrowed glory. The real star was gone but I became a mini star in school. Even when I got in serious trouble because I snuck out of school to see a Sanjay Dutt movie, Day One premiere, inside I was smiling. It was my icon.

So what did Sanjay Dutt say when Vivek told him about this incident on the first day of filming for Shootout in Lokhandwala? “Cut out, that first day of filming with him. My mate Sanjay Gupta felt my nerves and said, “Come on, let’s meet him. He’s on the set ”. I walked in dressed as a gangster and he was there in his cop uniform. I nervously reached out for a handshake and he just hugged me. Nerves melted, the scene was searing, and a bond of lifelong brotherhood emerged. When I reminded him of his trip to my school, he burst out laughing and asked me only one question: “So how many girlfriends have you made thanks to me?” Said Vivek.

Shootout in Lokhandwala became a huge success for Vivek Anand Oberoi, and his character Maya Dolas is still remembered today as one of the most cult villains of all time.

The music for the film also became a super hit. The song ‘Ganpat‘, with Vivek Anand Oberoi and his gangster buddies from the film, became a huge success. Besides Vivek and Sanjay, the film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Suniel Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, Rohit Roy, Neha Dhupia, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Aditya Lakhia, Ravi Gossain, Akhilendra Mishra, Dia Mirza, Abhishekia Singhb, Abhishek Singhbchanri, and many others.
