Universal TV Hit With Trial Of Fired Team Member Who Had Covid – Deadline

The coronavirus pandemic may be on the decline for many in Hollywood, but lawsuits against Covid may soon increase, as action against Universal Television by a deleted crew member seems to bode well.

In a heart-wrenching disability discrimination lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court, William Pavlu has opened up about how he was kicked out of an HBO Max show produced by Universal TV as chief technician of the rigging late last year after being afflicted with Covid-19. Literally told in hospital on December 14, 2020 by First Unit gaffer Chris Faulkner, according to the 15-page document, that he was not going to go back to the time titled Hacks project for the streamer owned by AT&T.

This harsh response came 10 days after Pavlu said he had fallen ill and a week after the unit’s production manager on the lead role of Jean Smart “assured the plaintiff he would not be dismissed for having taken a leave of absence for Covid. ” After being informed by Faulkner that he had been fired from the project led by Lucia Aniello, Palvu texted UPM Melanie Bukowski:

‘Game of Thrones’ author George RR Martin signs new global deal with HBO amid big franchise expansion

So last week when I spoke to you you assured me that I was not fired for getting Covid. Today I am in the hospital. My lungs are full. 2 of my guys went to the hospital last week. We are all on Covid. Today I get a message saying that we are all out of the gaff. So I have to tell all my crew that this is our for Covid, and just before Christmas we are all made redundant because of the virus. It’s probably the most messy thing a production has done to me. Or I’ve heard of it. Words don’t describe how I feel about you right now.

The Michael Malk pictured Pavlu then adds that not only did Bukowski never respond to this text, but he also failed to respond in late January when the now recovered crew member sought to make it to the Paramount lot. to collect tools over $ 10,000 which he used on the show. Not only did Palvu lose the rental income the Jen Statsky EP was paying him for the equipment, but the tools themselves were subsequently stolen.

In addition to working on the untitled HBO Max project, Palvu also worked at CBS Radford on AppleTV +. Mythic Quest, which was hit hard by more than two dozen crew members infected with Covid. Tellingly, Palvu is not suing Mythic Quest Lionsgate producers.

The studio it is suing, Universal TV, did not respond to today’s request for comment on the lawsuit.

Palvu’s four-claim jury trial seeks a “declaratory judgment that the defendants violated California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act” as well as a wide range of unspecified damages and the $ 10,300 value of his missing tools.
