We all grew up watching cartoons and would be luckier than those born in the 90s. Being a child, we consumed everything with innocence. But as we grew up, some things became clear about our favorite cartoon series that weren’t communicated to us. While we are talking about a cartoon, in today’s article we will take a look at which shows have been banned due to their content.
It would come as a shock to many if Shinchan, which is one of our all-time favorites, has explicit content that is not suitable for children, even under parental guidance. You will be more shocked to learn that Tom & Jerry made a cut in the list. So without wasting any time, let’s take a look:
Shinchan revolves around a child, Shinnosuke Nohara and his mischief. He’s super cute, fun, and full of unpredictability. Thanks to its cult character, the show is still a huge hit, but one thing we didn’t know was that it was purely for adults. There is a scene where Shinnosuke is playing with his pens in front of his father. That says a lot, doesn’t it? Fortunately, the properly edited version of the show aired from 2006 to 2008 in India. Surprisingly, it had to face a ban as parents objected to its content.
First of all, let’s be honest! We all loved Family Guy. Yes, the content is a bit too important to watch with the family. While the use of explicit language and sexual remarks had always been a subject of controversy for the series, its inclusion of gay characters, a satire on religions, had caused a lot of trouble for the creators. The show has been banned in Iraq, Iran and several other countries due to moral censorship.
Sponge Bob SquarePants
Not 1 or 2, but SpongeBob Squarepants has faced a ban in around 120 countries. The countries of the United States and Russia have banned it due to the use of violence and bad language. Not only that, some portions were too much for the kids (eg: Squidward’s suicide) which triggered negativity for the show.
Tom and Jerry
Not the entire show, but some episodes or portions have been banned in several countries. Still, the inclusion of Tom & Jerry would be a big surprise to many. The show featured scenes featuring alcohol consumption and smoking that were deleted. Some episodes have even been the subject of a total ban.
