EXCLUSIVE: Here’s a hot one. A24 addressed global rights to a ghost story under the radar The Eternal Girl, with Oscar winner Tilda Swinton.
Filmed in secret in Wales during the lockdown and completed in December, the project re-associates Swinton with director Joanna Hogg after recently working on the acclaimed Sundance film. Memory and the next one The memory, part 2, which will debut later this year.
The mystery drama will chronicle the story of a middle-aged girl and her elderly mother who must confront long-buried secrets when they return to their former family home, a once grandiose mansion that has become a nearly empty hotel and full of mystery.
The film is produced by Normal people, The favourite and Room producers Element Pictures and JWH Films, with development and production support from BBC Film. As he did on Memory, Martin Scorsese is executive producer.
It is also understood that the cast includes Joseph Mydell, Carly Davies and Alfie Sankey-Green.
A24 handled the US cast on the festival favorite Memory and is on board for follow-up The Remembrance Part 2.
Swinton has a form in space of the genre, including Luca Guadagnino’s horror photo Suspiria and Jim Jarmusch’s Only lovers will stay alive. She is currently filming George Miller’s mystery drama Three thousand years of desire with Idris Elba. A24 has had success with gender tariffs, including Lighthouse, Middle and Hereditary.
