“This action is brazen, disrespectful …”

“ His Storyy ” poster controversy: Sudhanshu Saria is not happy with Ekta Kapoor’s apology (Photo credit: Wikipedia and lehren)

National Award-winning filmmaker Sudhanshu Saria believes that the apology offered by Ekta Kapoor’s production house ALT Balaji for its alleged plagiarism of the poster concept is “cheeky, disrespectful, reckless” and “smack of the mark.” arrogance”. Saria previously pointed out that the poster for Kapoor’s upcoming show “His Storyy” is similar to that of his movie “Loev”.

Expressing her mind with an emotional outburst during a video interaction with IANS, Saria said, “I have to say my first reaction was numbness and then it took the wind out of me. I found myself instinctively so angry that I couldn’t even explain it. This action is cheeky, disrespectful, reckless, reckless and it smacks of arrogance. It made me show that I don’t matter. They saw the poster, took it and reused it thinking that I’m so no one in the company that no one would notice who originally created the poster! They thought I was insignificant. I have been in the business for 18 years. “

Saria also requested a public apology from the production house to the creator of the original poster.

ALT Balaji posted a social media statement on Sunday that read: “On April 9, we released a poster of His Storyy and were made aware of the existence of Sudhanshu’s ‘Loev’ poster. . The strange resemblance and similitude cannot be taken as a mere coincidence. This is an oversight on the part of our design team. For that, we apologize. We respect the creativity of every designer and would never intentionally lift their work or neglect their talent. Thus, apologies to the artists involved in the making of this poster are justified. We have removed the poster from all of our platforms and we humbly apologize to the artists involved in creating the beautiful poster for ‘LOEV’.

However, Saria said: “There are few points to note here, when it comes to ALT Balaji issuing a statement with his apologies. First, on social media, they didn’t tag or mention the name of the poster who wrote the poster. In an apology, they said they only learned of the poster’s existence on April 9. I find this neither sincere nor truthful because the poster photographer told us he had taken it two months ago.

“This means that everyone on set, including actors and photographers, is well aware of the poster’s existence. Obviously, creative briefs have been given and a team of people must have dealt with it until execution. This is not the only time this production house has done this. In fact, the very name of the show “His Storyy” is torn from a Korean show. “

“It’s clearly a culture in this production house. Instead of acknowledging this and promising to change it, instead of apologizing directly to the artist, they just posted this courtesy statement. I know I’m supposed to be happy because at least they apologized, but no, I’m not happy. We want to start a wider discussion on the whole issue, ”added Saria.

“LOEV” starring Shiv Pandit, was directed and produced by Saria, and was released in 2017 after a few rounds of festival screenings. It streams on Netflix.

Saria won the National Award for Best Director on March 22 for her new non-feature film titled “Knock Knock Knock.”
