Tonight’s Show with Jimmy Fallon was the first late-night show to bring back a live studio audience.
The NBC series, which has also had a number of studio guests since returning to 30 Rock, is now bringing back musical guests, previously a staple of late-night talk shows, with its first live performance since the start of the pandemic.
Fallon hosted J. Period, a hip-hop producer, starring The Roots member Black Thought and Tiffany Gouché with All in Your Head. The song, which is the first single from J. Period’s Story To Tell (Chapter One) project, features a narration by Dave Chappelle.
Chappelle was Fallon’s guest tonight, where he obviously brought his own crowd, to help promote his podcast The Midnight Miracle. The comedian, who recently kicked off the audio series with Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey, revealed that the podcast will also be available on vinyl, an unusual move for the medium, though some unexpected moves should be expected from Chappelle.
Hoping that J. Period’s studio performance is the first in a long series and that it will open the doors to more live spots on all the nightly talk shows.
