The owner of the ancestral homes of Bollywood celebrities Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in Pakistan refused to sell the house at the price set by the government. The price of their ancestral homes was determined by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government in Pakistan in December of last year.
The price of the houses was determined following a report from the Communication and Works department. Dilip Kumar’s ancestral haveli was valued at Rs. 80.56,000 and Raj Kapoor’s house was valued at Rs. 1,50,00,000. However, the owners do not accept the rate set by them.
The owner of Dilip Kumar’s house demands Rs 25 crore, while the owner of Raj Kapoor’s house demands Rs 200 crore. The owners reportedly said the prime property had been seriously undervalued.
Haji Lal Muhammad, owner of Dilip Kumar’s ancestral property, had purchased the property in 2005 for Rs. 51 lakh after completing all legal formalities. He said it was unfair of the government to rate the Prophet at Rs. 80.56 lakhs after 16 years.
The government decided to buy the two historic buildings and turn them into a museum to honor Bollywood legends and preserve their contribution to Indian cinema.
Raj Kapoor’s ancestral home, known as Kapoor Haveli, is located in the legendary Qissa Khwani Bazaar and was built between 1918 and 1922. Raj Kapoor was born in the building. Meanwhile, the ancestral home of veteran actor Dilip Kumar, which is over 100 years old, is also located in the same locality. The house was declared national heritage in 2014.
