‘The Masked Dancer’ Rips Cover In Season 1 Finale – Deadline

Dancing and singing can be a mystery to many. But that makes for good TV and the season 1 finale of The Masked dancer underlined this point tonight with a big surprise finish.

Similar in many ways to its cousin, The masked singer, the masked dancer is a dance competition with a twist – celebrity guests in colorful costumes and face masks are anonymous. They are joined by masked partners and backup dancers as they perform moves from hip-hop to salsa and jazz to tap dance. Some of it is poetry in motion. Other parts, not so much.

Hosted by comedian Craig Robinson, with panelists Ken Jeong, Paula Abdul, Brian Austin Green and Ashley Tisdale, The masked dancer sprinkle clues into the dance routines, leaving the panelists room to guess the identities.

The winner of the first season was “Cotton Candy” aka Gabby Douglas, three-time Olympic gold medalist. The finalist was “Sloth”, in real life the famous dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Third place went to “Tulip,” who is actually Mackenzie Ziegler, the actress, singer and media influencer.

The dancers can be decided, but the singing season is fast approaching. The Masked Singer will premiere its season five on Wednesday, March 10 at 8 p.m. ET / PT on Fox.
