When writing a story, you should consider all perspectives.

The upcoming film The last duel is one of the most anticipated releases of autumn. The film is directed by Ridley Scott, with a script based on the book The Final Duel: A True Story of Battle in Medieval France from Eric Hunter. TThe script was adapted by Nicole Holofcener, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon.

The plot of the film is about a 14th century knight challenging his squire to a duel after his wife accuses the squire of raping her. Obviously, this is a tricky act in today’s climate. There are many sensitive ideas here and in situations. The film is told from three different angles and contains one perspective for each of the people involved in the plot.

When it came time to adapt the book, it was decided that different authors would take different viewpoints.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck worked on it and won an Oscar for writing Goodwill hunt. But when it came time to tell this story, they understood where they might not have gotten the right point of view. So they were just working on the male characters’ point of view. Nicole Holofcener, an Oscar nominee for writing Can you ever forgive meShe worked on the point of view of the female figure.

Damon told Entertainment tonight“It’s a story about perspective … So there are two knights and then there is Lady Marguerite. So Ben and I wrote the male perspective and Nicole Holofcener wrote the female perspective. That is a kind of architecture of this film. ”

This is a really interesting way to deal with a movie like this. I think you will surely be able to recognize it as the film is about developing the plot of three different people. I also love how open and honest this process is, giving the writers certain characters that they can focus on without ignoring those points of view.

It will be interesting to bring this to life on the canvas. As for working with Affleck, Damon said the duo would likely spend more time doing it in the future.

“We made films for 30 years, and in the process we actually learned something about structure and the process was much faster. And that’s why I think we’ll be writing a lot more in the future just because it wasn’t as time-consuming as we thought. It was really a lot of fun. ”

Have you ever written a script in which you and someone else discussed viewpoints? Let us know how it went in the comments.
