EXCLUSIVE: Flash, which has already been renewed for Season 8, bids farewell to two members of the original cast, Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes.
Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon, will end his run as a series regular after the current seventh season with an appearance in the Season 7 finale.
Cavanagh, who played Eobard Thawne / Reverse-Flash as well as the various versions of Harrison Wells, was actually due to end his tenure as a series regular at the end of Season 6, I hear. He alluded to this in a February 2020 Instagram post, which didn’t garner much attention at the time. (You can see it below) But a few weeks later, the pandemic struck, halting all production and cutting the seasons of dozens of series, including The CW. The flash.
As a result, Cavanagh quietly ended his regular series with Season 7 Episode 3, “Mother,” which wrapped up Season 6’s standout storylines, but he continued on the series as a recurring guest star. . His status transition was not transparent; he hasn’t appeared since that third episode, but the producers of the DC drama have assured fans that he will return. Listings online indicate that Cavanagh may appear in episodes 9, 10 and beyond; his last appearance this season is kept a surprise. There is no current plan for Cavanagh to continue on the series beyond that, but there is a possibility for him and Valdes to do stints.
“Tom and Carlos have been an integral part of our show for seven seasons and we will be sorely missed,” Flash executive producer / showrunner Eric Wallace said in a statement to Deadline. “Both are incredible talents who have created beloved characters that fans and audiences around the world have come to love. That is why we gladly keep the door open for returning apparitions. “
Cavanagh and Valdes were two of the remaining six originals Sparkle cast members, as well as star Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker. Gustin is already under contract for Season 8 as the three negotiated new deals to return.
Cisco Ramon de Valdes, an engineering genius, was part of the STAR Labs team, along with Dr Harrison Wells (Cavanagh) and Dr Caitlin Snow (Panabaker), helping Barry Allen (Gustin) with his superpowers . Ramon is later revealed to have his own metahuman powers and takes the name Vibe. Valdes also plays Ramon’s Earth-2 lookalike, which goes through Reverb, and also played Ramon’s Earth-19 lookalike, which goes through Echo.
In the Season 7 premiere, “Nash” Wells and every iteration of the character Cavanagh played over the course of seven seasons perished after saying goodbye to Barry (Gustin). At the time, Wallace encouraged Cavanagh fans to keep watching the show, telling TVLine, “Just because someone died doesn’t mean they don’t have a lot more to do. “
In his IG fan message released over a year ago, Cavanaugh wrote about his trip to the series alongside a photo of himself standing under a N. Wells Street sign. “It was a joy to create and perform the myriad of Wells that make up ‘Wells st’ on The flash, “ he said. “Sometimes abrupt, sunny, capricious and perpetually immodest, they will always be bound by a single unbreakable thread of gratitude. My thanks to everyone, on all sides of the screen, who make up this tiny little superhero show of ours. “
