Hollywood star Eddie Murphy is set to reprise his popular role as Akeem from the 1988 comedy hit Coming To America in a sequel. The sequel titled Coming 2 America is gearing up for a world premiere on March 5.
Eddie Murphy said: “Coming to America, an African prince goes to America to find an ordinary girl and he brings her back to be his princess. It’s a modern fairy tale that a lot of people love and also, it was the very first time they had a movie with black people, where you had kings and queens. The next movie is a really cool continuation of that story and I want people to have a great experience watching it.
Set in the fictional land of Zamunda, the sequel sees the newly crowned King Akeem and his trusted confidant Semmi embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that takes them around the world of their great African nation in the borough of Queens, New York. .
The original returning cast include King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones), Queen Lisa (Shari Headley), Cleo McDowell (John Amos), Maurice (Louie Anderson) and the motley crew at the barbershop, alongside Eddie Murphy.
Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha and Teyana Taylor are part of this cast.
The original Amazon film directed by Eddie Murphy is slated for release worldwide on March 5.
