The drama ‘Ordinary Joe’ starring James Wolk picked up in series by NBC – Deadline

NBC gave a serial order to Ordinary joe, his dramatic pilot with Jimmy Wolk from lodge veterans Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner and The batman writer / director Matt Reeves and his 6th Banner and Idaho. The project, which co-stars Natalie Martinez, Charlie Barnett and Elizabeth Lail, is a co-production of 20th Television, Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, 6th & Idaho and 3 Arts.

Ordinary Joe, who was an NBC brass favorite since the pilot stage, is the latest in the 2020 NBC pilot crop awaiting a pickup decision. Last summer, the network pledged to film five pilots, dramas Langdon and Ordinary joe and comedies American Auto, Evening school and Large crew, while the dramas La Brea and Debris were put on the direct path of the series. NBC then gave direct orders to the series at Debris and La Brea and picked up in series Ordinary Joe, American Auto and Large crew, while Langdon was ordered to the streaming series Brother Peacock.

Written by Friend and Lerner, Ordinary joe explores the three parallel lives of the series’ main character (Wolk) after making a crucial choice at a crossroads in his life. The series asks the question of what a different life might be like if you made your decision based on love, loyalty, or passion.

Friend and Lerner executive produced with 6th & Idaho’s Reeves, Adam Kassan and Rafi Crohn, and Howard Klein for 3 Arts. Adam Davidson will direct and produce the pilot.

Reeves initially wrote a pilot script based on the idea over a decade ago.

“I still remember when Matt Reeves shared this passion project when I was working at Twentieth. Russel and Garrett wrote such a compelling and emotional script that was expertly executed from page to page, ”said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, Entertainment and Streaming. “We love how ‘Ordinary Joe’ allows us to explore the universal question of ‘what ifs’ through an incredible cast of characters and gripping storylines.”

Friend & Lerner and Reeves have all been under contract with 20th TV over the past decade. Friend and Lerner have been writing partners since 1995 after attending USC Film School together. They have most recently been executive producers on Home before dark. Congratulated Co-creator Reeves recently produced 20th TV’s Fox drama series The passage.
