EXCLUSIVE: Successful Peruvian Comedy Dad YouTuber (Dad YouTuber), on a technophobe set to become YouTuber, is slated for French and Spanish remakes with Studiocanal and YouPlanet Films, respectively.
Argentina’s FilmSharks sales agency sold the remake rights through its label The Remake Company, which previously handled remake sales for high profile photos, including Santiago Segura. Torrent franchise, Juan Taratuto’s A Novio Para Mi Mujer and Alejandro Amenabar Others.
Released by Cinecolor in Peru where it was a box office success, Dad YouTuber by director Fernando Villarán follows a middle-aged family man who is kicked out of his decades-old job by his new millennial bosses. When he finds out what others have gained from their YouTube videos, he decides to become a YouTube influencer himself with the help of his children.
The remake rights were previously sold to Colorado Films in Italy. An agreement announced with Cinepolis in Mexico was ultimately unsuccessful.
Spanish film and television company YouPlanet Films manages FC Barcelona’s in-house TV production and has a dedicated social media star division.
Guid Rud, CEO of FilmSharks, told us, “Top-tier family comedies are always in demand for vacation and summer releases. They do well at the box office and on OTT. Last year’s Spanish version of Argentina’s family comedy is a good example. Ten days without mom. The Italian remake of this film was also a number one success, and its sequel was one of Amazon’s most popular titles in Italy at Christmas, when theaters were closed.
