“I want to showcase agricultural workers. I want to shine a light on women, children, caregivers and a bright future for California, ”Gov. Gavin Newsom, when asked Monday about his state-of-the-state speech on Tuesday, said.
“It will not be the state of the state that presents political initiatives,” Newsom said. “I want to showcase the heroes.”
In March 2020, the state governor of the state focused on homelessness, which he called “shame.” Little did he know that a never-before-seen growing Chinese virus would kill some 50,000 Californians and consume most of his attention for the next 12 months.
Newsom said he is still writing the speech, but promised his 2021 speech will be shorter than usual, which for the chatty governor is a big statement. His first two State of the State speeches lasted just under 45 minutes each.
“This is NOT going to be a state of state political announcements,” he said.
“It will also be more sober. Aware of the lives that have been lost ”for Covid-19. He also said it would include a vision for the state’s future that is “extraordinarily bright”.
The speech will come about a week after the organizers of a recall effort targeting Newsom announced they had collected 1.9 million of the 2 million signatures they believe they need to ensure a vote of confidence in the governor’s performance. .
In the days that followed, the governor agitated the state, quickly easing restrictions on reopening Covid-19 and redirecting vaccine supplies to underserved communities, which are largely Latin American and who could constitute a large voting block in any statewide voting.
