Star Studded Inaugural Biden / Harris Events Span 5 Days – Deadline

The inaugural Biden / Harris presidential committee announced additional programming ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris on January 20. The theme for the five consecutive evenings is “America United”.

Saturday January 16 is America United: An inaugural welcome event celebrating America’s change makers. The event will “celebrate America, reflect and honor our history and highlight the incredible diversity of the nation” and kick off the five days of programming.

Whoopi Goldberg, actor Nik Dodani, comedian and actress Cristela Alonzo, musician Darren Criss, Representative Grace Meng, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and the Resistance Revival Choir will participate. The welcome event will include a special performance by the Grammy-nominated Black Pumas. It will be broadcast live from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET on bideninaugural.org and on the social media pages of the Inaugural Presidential Committee.

Also announced today is United We Serve: A Celebration of MLK’s National Day of Service Monday January 18. According to the statement, thousands of volunteers across the country will participate in the National Day of Service, which will then be celebrated by inspiring artists and speakers such as Aloe Blacc, Rev. Dr. Bernice King, Martin Luther King III, Chesca, Rep. Sharice Davids, Rosario Dawson, Andra Day, Yo-Yo Ma, Rev. Al Sharpton, Sean Patrick Thomas, Diane Warren, Lynn Whitfield and Bebe Winans. The event will be broadcast live from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET on bideninaugural.org and the inaugural committee’s social media pages.

These events are in addition to the events already announced Memorial and national tribute to remember and honor the lives lost to Covid-19 Tuesday, 19. At 5:30 p.m. ET, a ceremony in Washington will include lighting around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The inaugural committee invited towns and villages across the country to join in lighting up buildings and ringing church bells.

Inauguration day events include President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery with former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton and former First Ladies in attendance.

Tom Hanks will host the prime time Celebrate America special which will culminate with the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

In addition to appearances for the 46th POTUS and 49th VPOTUS, the 90-minute show produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss will feature “The Star-Spangled Banner” courtesy of Lady Gaga; a “musical performance” by Jennifer Lopez, details of which were not disclosed; and performances by Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Ant Clemons and longtime Democratic supporter Jon Bon Jovi.

Celebrate America will be broadcast on multiple networks. Starting at 8:30 p.m. ET, the unit’s aiming special will be carried by ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and CNN, I hear. In addition, the Weiss-led show will be seen on Amazon Prime Video, Microsoft Bing, Fox’s NewsNOW, AT&T DIRECTV, and U-verse, as well as the inaugural presidential committee’s social media.

Ahead of Wednesday’s ceremony, Biden’s team is bringing in fictional heavyweights from DC for a fundraiser on January 15. Unveiled today, the Conversations with West Wing, Scandal and Designated Survivor actors the event will see Designated survivor Kal Penn, a regular and former Obama staff member, plays ringmaster.

On January 17th, another celebrity fundraiser takes place. Nicknamed the We the people together the event will be hosted by Keegan-Michael Key and Debra Messing. It will star Ben Harper, Carole King, will.i.am, Fall Out Boy, James Taylor, AJR, Michael Bivens, Connie Britton, Sophia Bush, Jaimie Camil and Cal Penn. The festivities begin at 8 p.m. ET.
