Spanish ‘Perfect Strangers’ team reunite for film on the road – Deadline

Director Álex de la Iglesia teams up with producers Telecinco Cinema and Pokeepsie Films after their 2017 success Perfect strangers (remade from the Italian film of the same name) on El Cuarto Pasajero (The fourth passenger), a road movie in the rom-com vein.

The cast will be directed by Blanca Suárez (The skin i live in), Alberto San Juan (Under the stars), Ernesto Alterio (The other side of the road) and Ruben Cortada (Olmos y Robles). Co-written by Álex de la Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría, the screenplay follows a 50-year-old divorcee struggling with finances who begins sharing his car with strangers through an app. After falling in love with one of his passengers, he decides to tell her on a trip, but the other passengers turn out to be a problem.

The producers are Telecinco Cinema, Pokeepsie Films SL and Te Has Venido Arriba AIE, with the participation of Mediaset España, Movistar + and Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group. Local distribution will be handled by Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia SLU.

Filming began this week and will take place over seven weeks in Madrid, the Basque Country and La Rioja.

The Spanish incarnation of Perfect strangers, which was remade around the world after the first Italian release, grossed a phenomenal $ 26 million in Spain.
