Sony Pictures announced Thursday that Where the Crawdads sing hits theaters on June 24, 2022.
At the moment, the expected drama has little competition at the box office. The only other film currently slated for this weekend is Paramount Pictures’ Untitled Transformers Project with Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback.
Directed by Olivia Newman, Where the Crawdads sing takes place in the mid-20th century south, following a young woman named Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones) who is raising herself in the swamps outside her small town, after being abandoned by her family. When Kya’s ex-boyfriend is found dead, she is placed in the spotlight and is immediately seen by town residents and law enforcement as the cause of the murder. Equal Parts haunt a crime thriller and moving coming-of-age story, Where the Crawdads sing explores our universal yearning for connection, formative first loves, and ultimately the strength and resilience of each of us, no matter what obstacles stand in our way.
Garrett Dillahunt also stars in the drama, alongside David Strathairn, Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Sterling Macer, Jr. and more. Pic is scripted by Lucy Alibar, based on the best-selling novel by Delia Owens.
Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter produce the image for Hello Sunshine. Executive producers are Jon Wu, Rhonda Fehr and Betsy Danbury.
