SNL’s weekend update covers Matt Gaetz’s latest allegations and more – Deadline

Tonight on SNL, Weekend update Presenters Colin Jost and Michael Che weigh in on the new allegations made against their “favorite Florida congressman.”

“Matt Gaetz is back in the news. But this time it’s good, ”Jost said. “Just kidding, it’s still sex.”

Apparently, Jost noted, Gaetz – “who looks like all the guys from American pie combined ”—sent $ 900 via Venmo to an alleged sex trafficker. Subsequently, the trafficker allegedly passed the same amount on to the young women in the form of payments entitled “Tuition Fees” and “School”.

“If that’s true,” Jost joked, “[this] would make him the only congressman to actually help with student loans.

While Gaetz remains under an FBI sex trafficking investigation, Jost was happy to see, at the very least, that the congressman was taking the allegations seriously. “That’s why he spoke at the Women For America First summit yesterday, which is a good change,” he said, “to see women pay an hour with Matt Gaetz.”

Che later addressed Senator Mitch McConnell’s response to companies like Coca-Cola, which boycotted Georgia over its restrictive new voting law. “Senator Mitch McConnell … denounced companies opposing the new voting law in Georgia, saying they should ‘stay out of politics’,” noted the discussant. “Coincidentally, ‘staying out of politics’ is Georgia’s new rule for black people as well.

“Former President Donald Trump also issued a statement urging his supporters to boycott Coca-Cola,” Che continued, “which is surprising since I suspect Don Jr. would be the one with a problem with coke.”

Jost then reflected on President Biden’s executive actions to tackle gun violence, including those regulating gun kits you can buy online and assemble at home. “Do you remember how frustrated and angry you got putting together a dresser?” Now imagine that in the end you had a gun, ”he joked. “Plus I have to say it’s weird to see a guy who basically makes an impression of Clint Eastwood being a gun control pro. I mean, look at him. You could put it on Gran Torino and no one would know the difference.

Subsequently on Weekend update, former President Barack Obama (Chris Redd) and musician Bruce Springsteen (Beck Bennett) appeared to discuss their ability to ‘riff’ as co-hosts of the Spotify podcast, Renegades, while a stripper by the name of Pineapple (Punky Johnson) protested the dismissal of ESPN analyst Paul Piercer, over his filming of a “wild party” on Instagram Live.

The last guest appearing tonight Update segment was the Iceberg (Bowen Yang) who sank the Titanic, who was invited to discuss his role in this tragedy, with the anniversary of the event next week. But while the Iceberg was asked to share his side of the story, he didn’t bite.

“I think my publicist was very clear,” he said. “I’m not here to talk about the sinking. I am here to promote my album. “
