Speaking to a daily, Sinha said he honestly didn’t want to fight him but couldn’t turn down BJP leader LK Advani either. The lead actor tried to explain it to Khanna but he didn’t like it and the two ended up not talking for years. But later they came back to talking.

In said election, Khanna defeated Sinha by 28,000 votes and retained her seat until 1996.

Shatrughan Sinha also said he wanted to go and apologize to him, but before he could do so, Rajesh Khanna passed away. Actor Anand died in 2012.

Meanwhile, Shatrughan Sinha left the BJP in 2019 after being associated with it for two decades and joined the Congress Party. “I saw democracy turn into dictatorship in the BJP … It became a solo show and a two-man army,” he said at the time.
