Scam 1992 gets the singular honor of being the only Indian series in IMDb’s all-time favorites list: Bollywood News

It’s time to applause for Applause Entertainment. Hello, scammers! The 2020 Scam 1992 Harshad Mehta bio-series team now has even more to be proud of. They have just achieved what no other Indian series or television show has ever achieved. The highly rated IMDb has curated a list of the most popular web and TV series of all time. The list which contains 163 titles from all over the world has only one Indian entry. Applause Entertainment 1992 Scam: Harshad Mehta Story directed by Hansal Mehta made it to the coveted list of the world’s most watched series.

Pratik Gandhi, who played the eponymous role, said: “We knew we were doing a sincere job. But we could never guess it would go that far. My main reason for accepting the role of Harshad Mehta was director Hansal Mehta. My producers Applause Entertainment and Sameer Nair were a blessing. I love playing real characters. I played a lot of it on stage including Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. It’s always a challenge to portray a real-life character, especially one as well known in the public domain as Harshad Mehta. “

There were a lot of layers in Harshad Mehta’s character that attracted Pratik. “I like to play characters with complex human features. It is also the biggest project I have done in my life. All these reasons were more than enough to encourage to carry out the project.

Pratik says he did a lot of research on Harshad Mehta. “I was provided with a lot of material. I also did my own research. There were a few Harshad videos that I studied. There’s also an informative Harshad interview with legendary journalist Pritish Nandy. The script itself provided a detailed document on the character. All this, as well as multiple discussions with the writers and directors, helped me a lot.

Pratik undertook a whole regimen of physical preparation to play Harshad. “When I first met director Hansal Mehta, he told me I was too skinny to play Harshad Mehta. I must have put on 18 kilos before I started filming. I gorged myself on all the Gujarati treats I had avoided before. By the time we started touring I had a huge stomach and a lot of fat on my face. And of course the hallmark of the Harshad Mehta mustache.

He made the conscious decision not to look like Harshad. “Looking like the real-life character certainly makes the actor’s job easier, especially when it comes to someone as well-known as Harshad Mehta. He liked to be in the limelight. One of his photographs with his Lexus is still popular. In making the Harshad series, we made a conscious decision not to try and sound like the real Harshad. I’d rather focus on his behavior, his attitude and his personality, whether it was his helplessness at first, his confidence, then his overconfidence to the point of letting his arrogance and his ego get the better of his judgment. Hansal was clear not to caricature Harshad, but rather to imbue his characteristics into my personality.

Being a Gujarati helped Pratik better understand Harshad. “It helped me understand his thinking process, his dreams, his talent for understanding money matters, the entrepreneurial spirit. And this determination to be independent. It is a Gujarati trait. Although I must admit that I come from a family of educators. No one in my family is an entrepreneur. “
