Samantha Morton stars as Catherine De Medici in Starz’s ‘The Serpent Queen’ – Deadline

Two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton set to star as villainous Catherine de Medici in new Starz Original series The queen of serpents.

Morton (Minority Report, The Walking Dead) will play Catherine in the series described as ‘the Medici-centric black legend’ by writer and executive producer Justin Haythe (Revolutionary route).

The series will also be produced by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games franchise) and Erwin Stoff (The matrix). Stacie Passon (Transparent) will direct several episodes, including the premiere.

Award-winning British actress Samantha Morton first gained international attention in Carine Adler’s Under the skin, which earned her the Boston Film Critics Award for Best Actress.

Queen of serpents is described as “a clever tale of one of the most influential women to ever wear a crown.” Considered an immigrant, ordinary and ordinary, Catherine de Medici was married to the French court in the 16th century as an orphaned teenager supposed to bring a fortune in dowry and produce many heirs, only to discover that her husband was in love with a woman. older, her dowry is not paid and she is unable to conceive. Based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda, the eight-part series is produced for Starz by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Queen of serpents will air on Starz in the United States and Canada and on its international premium streaming platform Starzplay across its footprint in Europe, Latin America and Japan.
