Salma Hayek is set to step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project, Eternals. The multi-star, directed by Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, sees Hayek play Ajak, the wise leader of the immortal aliens living on earth in disguise. But did you know she was terrified of the character’s costume?
In a recent interaction, Hayek spoke about the same thing and said she was claustrophobic and therefore scared. But she added that once she slipped into her character set, things changed. Read everything she said below.
In a conversation with Variety, Salma Hayek spoke about her fears of putting herself in Ajak’s shoes – or should we say clothes -. Speaking of the Marvel’s Eternals outfit, she said, “I’m claustrophobic. I was terrified of the costume. I was terrified. Because if I can’t move and it’s thick enough… I was like, ‘Oh my God, I won’t be able to breathe. It’s gonna drive me crazy. And I went to put it on, I found myself deeply moved. It was a very strange experience because I was not expecting it. I forgot how you are doing? Will I have a claustrophobic attack? “
Salma Hayek added, “All I could see was, ‘Oh my God, here’s a Mexican woman in this outfit and it’s really happening. And yes, we are becoming superheroes. ”
During the same conversation, Salma Hayek also touched on the diversity of Eternals’ cast. Adding that such a thing is rare, she said, “I think a lot of people are going to feel seen and that’s important and that’s what matters. It is not diversified for the sake of diversity. It’s how she chose each of us that truly creates a family for the Eternals. For the purposes of the film. It doesn’t seem forced.
MCU’S Eternals is written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. He sees alien immortals come together to protect the planet from deviants, their evil counterparts. The film also stars Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie and Kit Harington.
