Saif Ali Khan is an actor who doesn’t hesitate to say what he thinks. Often his bold statements have led to controversy, but that doesn’t stop him from saying what he thinks. The 50-year-old actor in a recent interview spoke about his upcoming role as Raavan in Prabhas Adipurush.
Saif revealed that playing a ten-headed character was “ one of the cool things ” about the movie for him.
In a conversation with Film Companion, Saif Ali Khan opened up about his upcoming mythological film, Adipurush, which also stars Prabhas and Kriti Sanon in key roles. Directed by Om Raut, the film is a magnum opus and is a film adaptation of The Ramayana.
Calling his character “bigger than he is,” Saif Ali Khan said, “There will be some deception involved… But a lot of things are real in the sense that they want us to practice… seem particularly hard. All this is normal, but it really is not the point. The point is that he (Raavan) is the kind of Satan from India, he is the demon king and I guess what makes him tick … I was trying to find a way to do it and I think the stuff is vanity, the personification of vanity, so it all comes from there. Everything – the blessings he prays for, the kingdom he wants. His whole vision is incredibly dark, blind and conceited. He’s a monster and he’s strong and fun to play in that sense.
“But the point of the story, in a way, psychologically, really, is to overcome the monster. That’s what the story is about. It’s about Lord Ram defeating him and the stronger he is, the more of a feat for the hero. So he is dressed in dazzling clothes and he has an array of weapons and he has a tremendous amount of knowledge and skill and power, but he is conceited and he says scandalous things. But it’s important to play the main villain, isn’t it? And I’ll tell you one thing, though, I’ve got ten heads at a time which is one of the cool things, ”Saif Ali Khan added.
