British actor and director Sacha Baron Cohen has called Borat Subsequent Moviefilm a peaceful protest.
He added that the film was designed to counter the misogyny, racism and anti-Semitism brought to light by former US President Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump meant that the racism, anti-Semitism and misogyny that I spoke about in the first film, at the time a dark belly of society, had come to light. I felt that American democracy was in danger and I couldn’t be a spectator, ”Sacha Baron Cohen, quoted by contactmusic.com, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Sacha Baron Cohen added as a comedian and actor, there isn’t much you can do except do your job.
Cohen said: “I felt I had no choice but to bring Borat back because he was that perfect tool to get those who follow Trump to reveal what they were willing to tolerate.”
The 49-year-old actor pointed out that “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” was a form of peaceful protest.
“The first film was a satirical commentary that exposed the realities of American society, but (our job) was to make the film as funny as possible. This film was above all a form of peaceful protest, ”he added.
