Robbie Williams Biopic ‘Better Man’ Sells To Major International Markets – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Rocket Science scored a series of international presales on Michael Gracey (The greatest showman) Better man, based on the life of singer Robbie Williams.

Significant deals were made in UK (entertainment), Germany and Austria (Tobis), Australia (Village Roadshow), Italy (Lucky Red), CIS / Baltic States (Volga) and Scandinavia ( Nordisk).

Pacts were also concluded in Eastern Europe (vertical), in Benelux (The Searchers), in Switzerland (Ascot Elite), in the Middle East (Front Row), in Greece / Cyprus (Odeon), in Portugal ( Lusomundo) and in Israel (Forum).

Production is slated for summer 2021 on the feature film, which will explore the experiences that made Williams who he is and the demons he fought on and off the stage. We hear that there will be a strong CGI component in the film, which will negate the need for a big name to represent Williams.

‘Panopticon’, starring Shailene Woodley, Anthony Mackie and Jacob Latimore, pre-sells worldwide for AGC

Written by Gracey and first-time writers Oliver Cole and Simon Gleeson, the film is produced by Jules Daly for Big Red Films (Grey), Craig McMahon for McMahon International (Three thousand years of desire) and Gracey.

Williams has been well known since his cheeky teenage years in boy group sensation Take That, but the singer has really hit the mark as a solo artist. It happened quickly, with 11 out of 12 studio albums topping the charts in the UK. His tours continue to be a big draw and he made the Guinness Book of Records for selling 1.6 million tickets for a one-day tour.

Gracey told us last month, “Unlike some people who are born to prodigies or geniuses in music and follow the world’s narrative catching up to their shine, it’s not that story. Robbie is that Everyman, who just dreamed big and followed those dreams and they took him to an amazing place. For this reason, hers is an incredibly tellable story. He is neither the best singer nor the best dancer, and yet he has managed to sell 80 million records worldwide.

Commenting on the music for the film, Gracey added, “All of Robbie’s songs will be sung, for the emotion of the moment,” he said. “If in his life he is in the depths of despair, he is not going to sing a song like a flamboyant cabaret show; it’s going to be broken, acapella, stripped, because that’s where he is emotionally. In moments of pure joy, you will hear songs sung in this whirlwind of hysteria. So basically every song in the movie, Robbie will be singing, but it’s going to be performed for the emotion of that moment and that scene.

CAA Media Finance and Elevate Production Finance have organized funding and represent national rights.

Gracey made her film debut in 2017 with the Fox musical The greatest showman, which grossed over $ 435 million at the box office and won a Golden Globe for Best Song and an Oscar nomination.

Rocket ScienceZach Braff’s EFM slate also included A good person with Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman, and Sophia Banks’ Black site with Jason Clarke, Michelle Monaghan and Jai Courtney.

Gracey is represented by CAA, Partizan and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof & Fishman, LLP; Williams is represented by CAA and that is to say: music ltd; and Daly is represented by CAA.
