EXCLUSIVE: Production is underway in the Netherlands on director Nico van den Brink’s feature debut Moloch, which has been shipped for worldwide sales by XYZ Films. Splendid Film has taken over the distribution rights in the Benelux.
In the horror thriller, Betriek, 38, lives on the edge of a bog in the north of the Netherlands. When she and her family are attacked by a random stranger one night, Betriek tries to find an explanation. The more she digs, the more convinced she becomes that she is being chased by something old. Today we can reveal a first frame from the film.
The Dutch photo is produced by Sabine Brian and Ronald Versteeg for NL Film in Amsterdam. Todd Brown and Maxime Cottray are executive producers for XYZ.
Van den Brink has already attracted attention for his shorts. One of these, Load, also produced by NL Film, is currently in development as an English-language feature film that will be van den Brink’s second film, with James Wan and Sam Raimi producing.
Scenario for Moloch comes from van den Brink and Daan Bakker, from a story by van den Brink with additional support from Jaap Peter Enderle.
The recent sales list of genre specialist XYZ includes Stowaway, The trip, Ghostland prisoners and horror SXSW Gaia. Outfit of movies, television and digital content NL Film, one of the main producers in the Netherlands, is a label of Banijay Benelux.
