EXCLUSIVE: Lili Horvát, writer-director of this year’s Hungarian Oscars participation Preparations to be together for an unknown period of time, signed with UTA.
The move comes after Preparations, her second feature film, debuted at the Venice and Toronto film festivals last year. It follows a neurosurgeon (Natasa Stork) who, after 20 years in the United States, returns to Budapest for a date with a fellow doctor (Viktor Bodó) whom she met at a conference in New Jersey. When she finally finds him, the man claims the two have never met.
Greenwich Entertainment has acquired the US rights to the psychological thriller and will release it on January 22. The photo was part of Deadline’s Contenders International’s awards season showcase last weekend.
“The main ground of this [movie’s] the story is a mystery, ”she told Contenders,“ that place in the unsettling and troubled no man’s land that separates love from madness.
Horvát’s first feature film was the coming-of-age drama of 2015 Wednesday’s child, which won an award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The following year, she co-founded the production company Poste Restante which published Preparations with the support of the Hungarian National Film Institute.
The Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences is expected to release its shortlist for the International Feature Films category on February 9.
