‘Nomadland’ Producer Follow-Up Film Gets Sale Offers – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Memento International Acquires International Sales Rights To Tribeca Film Festival Thriller Just catch it, The follow-up to Oscar-nominated producer Mollye Asher Nomadland.

The film, about a former boxing champion who embarks on the fight of her life as she sets out to find her missing sister, marks the acting debut of the real boxer, Kali “KO” Reis, the first Native American woman to win a major world title. Reis is the current WBA Super Lightweight World Champion and fought in the first televised women’s fight on HBO.

As announced yesterday by Tribeca, the film will have its world premiere as part of the festival’s US narrative competition. Above, a first image of the film.

Pic is written and directed by Josef Kubota Wladyka and stars Reis in the lead role. Reis also shares a credit history with Wladyka. Other actors include Daniel Henshall, Tiffany Chu, Michael Drayer, Shelly Vincent, Lisa Emery, Kimberly Guerrero, and Kevin Dunn.

The film is produced by Nomadland and The horseman producer Asher, Kimberly Parker (Last black man in San Francisco) and director Wladyka. It is produced by Darren Aronofsky, Mynette Louie, Derek Nguyen, Ari Handel, Cat Hobbs, James Hausler, Charles Stiefel, Todd Stiefel, Michael D’Alto, Christopher Triana, Claude Amadeo, Shaun Sanghani, Sam Bisbee and Arturo Castro.

Memento International represents international sales and The Films Sales Company will manage US rights. Feature film marks Memento’s second English premiere in 2021 after SXSW debut The Driver’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson.

Director Wladyka’s first feature film, Manos Sucias, won Best New Narrative Director at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival and was nominated for two Independent Spirit Awards. He also directed episodes of series including Narcos, Terror, and Fear the living dead.

The filmmaker said: “Premiere of my second feature film, Just catch it, in Tribeca is a true homecoming as a New Yorker and festival alumnus. I am delighted to work with Memento, who has managed so many inspiring and cinematic films. We know we are in good hands to kick off our film and bring Kali “KO” Reis’ dynamic debut performance to an international audience. “

Memento’s sales list also includes Asghar Farhadi’s anticipated drama A hero, Berlin Title Persian course and Venice and Toronto film Kings night.

Wladyka is replaced by CAA and Redefine Entertainment and Reis is replaced by Dan Janvey.
