Netflix Lupine is poised to set a global benchmark for a French series on the service with 70 million members expected to watch all five parts in its first 28 days. It’s bigger than other recent hit series in English Bridgerton (projected at 63M) and The queen’s gambit (62M). Omar Sy star debuted on Netflix on January 8 and quickly became the first French series to make the streamer’s top 10 American list.

The UntouchablesSy plays the role of Assane Diop who uses the famous gentleman thief and master of disguise, Arsène Lupine, as a source of inspiration. The French Gaumont Television original is created by George Kay (Criminal UK, Killing Eve) in collaboration with François Uzan (Family Business) and is a contemporary adaptation of novels written by French writer Maurice LeBlanc, who created the character in 1905. The books have been adapted into dozens of television series and films over the years.
Since the release of the series, Leblanc’s original book has regained international interest and is now trending in many markets in France, Italy, Spain, US, UK, in Korea and others. Again yesterday, the French national news radio, FranceInfo, presented the program as part of its daily children’s program, FranceInfo Junior, calling on an academic Arsène Lupine to educate young people on the origins of the character.
