Netflix has ordered two more seasons of its Regency-era bonkbuster Bridgerton.
With production currently underway on Season 2, Netflix has dropped a big surprise for the legions of Shondaland fans, revealing that it will return to the world of Julia Quinn’s novels for a third and fourth season.
According to Bridgerton tradition, Lady Whistledown had a say in renewal. “This author will have to buy more ink,” joked the character, who is narrated by Julie Andrews and is the pseudonym of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). See below for a special edition of his article on the company:
In a statement, Shonda Rhimes said, “From the first time I read the delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate an audience. But the evolution of this adaptation wouldn’t be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team.
“This two-season revival is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I am extremely grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to introduce the world of Bridgerton to a global audience. “
Bela Bajaria, Netflix vice president of Global TV, added: “Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful emotional and romantic drama to our members. They have exciting plans for the future and we believe audiences will continue to faint for this show. We plan to work in the Bridgerton area for a long time. “
