Neill Blomkamp has revealed that the long-awaited sequel to his sci-fi hit District 9 could get closer, with the director posting a tweet indicating that the script for the project is now being written by himself, Terri Tatchell and Sharlto Copley.
The original film, which starred Copley, grossed north of $ 200 million worldwide. Telling its story largely through found footage, the photo chronicled the events after an alien spaceship landed in 1982 in South Africa, addressing topics such as xenophobia and social segregation.
Blomkamp has said on several occasions that he wants to do a sequel to District 9, while leaving on other projects including Elysium and Chappie. His recent work includes the horror of the pandemic Demonic, which AGC finances, and the star Taylor Kitsch Hell, which was delayed during lockdown.
