The HFPA has come under fire and the game is real.
Amid calls for diversity and inclusion, NBC has decided to cancel the 2022 Golden Globes.
NBC released a statement this morning stating, “We continue to believe the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, changing this magnitude will take time and effort, and we strongly believe that it will take time for the HFPA to get it right. As a result, NBC will not be broadcasting the 2022 Golden Globes. Provided the organization goes ahead with its plan, we’re confident we can air the show in January 2023. ”
The decision was made today as WarnerMedia, Netflix and Amazon all pledged to boycott the HFPA for continuing countermeasures against the organization’s lack of diversity.
The HFPA announced possible reforms last week to the organization but did not provide a timeline for significant changes other than adding 20 new members this year, “with a particular focus on recruiting black members and building an environment that enables them to succeed”.
More will follow shortly.
