After collecting 13.43 crore in its first week, Mumbai Saga introduced 1.60 crores * more over the second weekend. With this, the film directed by Sanjay Gupta has managed to surpass the 15 crore mark as the total rises to 15.03 crore *.
If these were the numbers from week one of the film, the gangster-cop drama might well have been aiming for a life of over 20 crore. However, as it wasn’t quite the case with Mumbai Saga, one would have to settle for much less.
There are rumors in the industry that the film might well have gone for a digital release when it got a good price there anyway. However, these are only ifs and buts. Back when those who had invested in the film changed the course of OTT’s theatrical release, it was an informed decision since the pandemic was at its lowest point and cases had fallen to less than 10,000 per day. The theaters had been allowed to operate at 100% occupancy and the issue between distributors and exhibitors had also been resolved. With so many positives in the right direction, it was a bet worth playing for stars John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi. It’s just a shame the storyline changed again around the release date, but by then it was too late. The best everyone associating with the film would do now is move on and wait and see how it plays out on its next OTT release.
* Estimates. Final figures expected.
