Warner Bros. Tom & Jerry is set to release across India on February 19. The film was not promoted enough, which did not allow it to generate good visibility and a buzz. However, for those familiar with the upcoming release, the branding value is enough to get them to theaters.
The film is released in several formats like 2D, 4DX, MX4D and even IMAX. In southern cities it will also be released in Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions.
Advance booking for the next big Hollywood movie is going strong. However, it looks like the movie only gets some sort of response in big cities like Mumbai and Delhi.
Let’s take a look at Tom & Jerry’s advance booking scenario.
Tom & Jerry seems to be the top performer in Mumbai as the trend of advance bookings is encouraging compared to their boring promotions.
The film’s 2D English format managed to see 10-15% of shows with fast filling and near full status. Hindi 2D is inferior with less than 5% of good shows and the same goes for English versions of 4DX. Hindi 4DX, Hindi MX4D and English MX4D are now boring.
The film performs quite well in Delhi as the English 2D versions have around 5% of emissions with healthy occupancy. The same goes for the Hindi 2D versions but there is no answer for the 4DX versions at the moment.
Other big cities like Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh and even Pune have yet to get a response from the public. Now it all comes down to visibility and word of mouth.
The target audience for the film are kids who are busy with exams these days. But still, if he manages to entertain even a small portion of the audience, there is a chance he will survive until the release of the major Bollywood version, Roohi, on March 11.
