McG has officially signed on to direct the pilot episode of Turner & Hooch, Disney + ‘s reboot of the classic Boyfriend-Boy comedy from 1989. The TV series, which has a 12-episode order, comes from Matt Nix and 20th TV. McG will also serve as executive producer on the series, which is now in production.
Like the film, the hour-long series centers on Scott Turner, played by Josh Peck, who is now a US Marshal – against the Police Detective played by Tom Hanks in the film. When the ambitious, button-down farrier inherits a large unruly dog, he soon realizes that the animal he didn’t want might just be the mate he needs.
In addition to Peck, the series also stars Carra Patterson, Brandon Jay McLaren, Anthony Ruivivar, Lyndsy Fonseca, Jeremy Maguire, and Vanessa Lengies. Five French mastiffs also play the role of Hooch, the adorable and drooling French mastiff of Scott, Arnie, Hammer, Obi, Cyd and Mya.
Turner & Hooch is produced by 20th Television. Nix is a creator, writer and executive product with McG. Mike Horowitz, Robbie Duncan and Mary Viola are also executive producers and Josh Levy is co-executive producer.
McG, known for leading features charlie’s angels and Greeting Terminator, both of which grossed more than $ 1.2 billion at the box office, produced hundreds of hours of prime-time network television, including CO, supernatural and Shadowhunters: The Deadly Instruments. Through his Wonderland Sound and Vision, he recently produced the Netflix film Holidate, which attracted around 654 million views, as well as The babysitter (Netflix), Tall girl (Netflix), I feel pretty (STX) and The Duff (Lionsgate). McG is replaced by WME and Management 360.
