EXCLUSIVE: Following the news, Phoebe Waller-Bridge landed the female lead in the upcoming Indiana Jones movie, Lucasfilm has found Harrison Ford’s next co-star as Mads Mikkelsen is set to join the next episode. James Mangold takes the helm of directing from Steven Spielberg, who is still a producer and is heavily involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on all scores of the 40-year franchise, including its iconic theme, will also return as a songwriter.
The hope is to begin production this summer, with Mangold meeting other talents for other roles in preparation for production. Plot details are still vague on the new adventure that awaits Jones, as are the details behind who Mikkelsen will play. The film is scheduled to bow on July 29, 2022.
The film marks another major franchise Mikkelsen is embarking on after arriving at the Fantastic beasts franchise. Mikkelsen replaces Johnny Depp as Grindewald, who parted ways earlier this year following his recent legal issues. Mikkelsen is also pulling out some of the best reviews of his Danish film career. Another round, which recently won a handful of Oscar nominations, including Best Foreign Film and Best Director. At the BAFTAs, where Mikkelsen was nominated for best actor, the film won the award for best non-English film.
The next step for him is the Horsemen of Justice. It is replaced by UTA and Art Management.
