Lyricist Sameer Anjaan recalls association with Shravan Rathod and Nadeem: Bollywood News

Shravan Rathod whose partnership with Nadeem-Shravan produced some of the most hummed movie songs of the 1990s, coming from a family of musicians. His brothers Roop Kumar Rathod and Vinod Rathod are well known singers. Lyricist Sameer Anjaan remembers Shravan as an extremely talented humble musician. “Between them, Shravan and Nadeem had shared the chore of composition, as had Laxmikant and Pyarelal. Nadeem sang the melody and Shravan played it on the harmonium as if it was Nadeem’s voice.

Sameer who wrote all of Nadeem-Shravan’s hits, including Aashiqui, Sajan, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Raja Hindustani and Dhadkan reveals how they started their historic collaboration. “I met Nadeem and Shravan through filmmaker Aziz Sejawal who wanted me to collaborate with Nadeem and Shravan for a film called Ilaaka. But Nadeem flatly rejected the offer, saying I was too new. When I was about to leave Nadeem called me and gave me a line Pyar se bhi zyada hand tumse pyar karta hoon. “See if you can write a follow-up line to that.” Nadeem challenged me.

Sameer remembers: “I thought about the line when I got home and called Nadeem when I got home (there was no cell phone at the time). “My line to follow Pyar se bhi zyada hand tumse pyar karta hoon has been… Yaad tujhe ek pal mein baar-baar karta hoon. “

It did. “Nadeem, who called me Samraat, decided to work with me. Ilaaka was our first movie together. My association with Nadeem-Shravan was historic. As Nadeem woke up late after partying, I would play with Anand-Milind in the morning, then play with Nadeem-Shravan in the afternoon.

Then followed the slew of blockbuster soundtracks with Nadeem-Shravan that changed the course of film music. Recalls Sameer, “Aashiqui who changed the course of film music has an interesting story. It was originally intended by T-Series music baron Gulshan Kumar as a non-cinematic album to promote (singer) Anuradha Paudwal. His name was then Chahat and I wrote the title song ‘Main Duniya Bhula Doonga Teri Chahat Mein’. But then Mahesh Bhatt heard the first three songs on the album and decided to make a movie written around the songs. It’s like that Aashiqui was born.”

Sameer reveals that at one point, Gulshan Kumar wanted to abandon the project. “He thought the songs sounded like non-cinematic Ghazals. He didn’t like the look of the main pair of Aashiqui. Mahesh Bhatt offered to solve this problem: he covered the faces of Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal with a cloak on the posters.

Aashiqui was released and became a thunderclap. “It was followed by an endless string of blockbusters where I write the humble single words to the light tunes of Nadeem Shravan. Do you know, Saajan had to have the music of Laxmikant-Pyarelal. They even composed a song. Producer Sudhakar Bokade scrapped it and got Nadeem-Shravan and me for the music. Thanks to Nadeem-Shravan, even a lyricist like me received VIP treatment from the producers.

Producer-director Suneel Darshan who has collaborated with Nadeem-Shravan on several soundtracks said: “Such fond memories of working with Shravanji, both on my films. Ek Rishtaa, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, Andaaz, Barsaat (2005), Mere Jeevan Saathi, Dosti-Friends Forever as part of the Nadeem Shravan team as well as on Talaash – The Hunt Begins where he mentored his sons Sanjeev and Darshan. He will be remembered for decades for his exceptional repertoire of hit music from the 1990s and 2000s. I am a fan of Nadeem-Shravan and have admired almost all of their songs since. Aashiqui at Dosti friends forever, with Deewana, Sadak, Saajan, Dil Hai ke Maanta Nahin, Phool aur Kaante, Raja Hindustai, Pardes, Dhadkan, Raaz… the list is endless of their record melodies!

Singer Hariharan who sang the chartbuster ‘I love my India ‘ in By for Nadeem-Shravan recalls Shravan, “Shravanji’s death is very tragic. He was a very humble and gentle person! Shravanji was a great composer and tabla player. God bless his soul. Very easy going, they were both nice guys. Very professional. “

Singer Alka Yagnik, who sang the majority of Nadeem-Sgravan’s songs, says, “Heartbreaking. It is devastating. I have no words.

And singer Shailendra Singh remembers Shravan Rathod as: “A very humble and talented composer. Never compromise on the melody. God bless his soul “
