Los Angeles to no longer need masks for people vaccinated outside – Deadline

UPDATE with the latest: The stunt continued Tuesday afternoon as Los Angles public health officials announced they would update the county’s Covid-19 guidelines to follow the new, looser CDC restrictions released Tuesday morning. California officials have also signaled that the state will comply.

Extract from the public health declaration:

Los Angeles County will soon adjust our health official order to align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations on when and where people should wear masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19. .

The county will amend the health worker order to reflect these changes and provide advice on additional activities and settings this week.

Los Angeles and San Francisco qualify for CA’s least restrictive yellow reopening level for the first time, must do so one more week to loosen restrictions

PREVIOUS at 11:40 am:Just minutes after the federal government released new exterior masking guidelines for fully vaccinated Americans, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement confirming the state would adopt the CDC restrictions. “After reviewing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s masking recommendations,” Newsom wrote, “and with science and data as a guide, we’re going to align California’s advice with these common sense updates.” Los Angeles public health officials have yet to weigh in, but they generally agree with the state.

The news comes on the same day that, for the first time, Los Angeles Covid figures qualified it for the least restrictive level of the California Reopening Blueprint. If the region stays below the required thresholds for an additional consecutive week, it may relax the requirements for cinemas, theme parks, concerts, and subsequent events.

PREVIOUS at 11:02 am: As the weather warms, the CDC has released new masking guidelines for Americans. One of the main takeaways from the post is that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask outdoors, except in certain crowded environments and places. Specifically, masks should always be worn at a crowded outdoor event, such as a live performance, parade, or sporting event.

Concrete example: the giant of this Sunday Vax Live concert at Los Angeles’ new SoFi Stadium limits crowds to fully vaccinated residents. According to the instructions posted on Ticketmaster, participants must wear masks, show their vaccination card and an ID to prove who they are.

Restaurants, however, are another story. The guidelines say fully vaccinated people can dine at an outdoor restaurant with friends from multiple households. See the table below.

What this means for television and film productions, which appear to fall between these two examples, remains to be seen. The guidelines say Americans can safely attend small outdoor gatherings with fully immunized family and friends without a mask. Assuming that most of the workers in a film and TV are vaccinated and production uses the zone model, this seems to pave the way for some masquerade-less outdoor shoots and maybe even small scenes of crowd.

The advice can also give actors some mental relief, as the CDC’s restrictions appear to offer more confidence in performing without a mask in a small group – as long as everyone is vaccinated.

However, the CDC warns that the risk increases, even for fully vaccinated people, during “activities that involve behaviors such as singing, screaming, exertion or heavy breathing, inability to wear a mask, or inability to maintain physical distance.”

It’s unclear when these recommendations could be codified into industry protocols that govern film and television production, but the CDC recommends that workers continue to “follow guidelines issued by individual employers.” States and counties could also intervene.

New CDC mask guidelines for fully vaccinated people

Here are the additional details of the CDC ad, who say fully immunized Americans can:

-Visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing a mask or physical distance
-Visit with unvaccinated people (including children) from the same household who are at low risk of severe COVID-19 illness indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing
-Participate in outdoor and recreational activities without a mask, except in certain crowded environments and places
-Return domestic travel and refrain from performing pre-travel or post-travel testing or self-quarantine after travel.
– Do not perform tests before leaving the United States for international travel (unless required by the destination) and refrain from self-quarantine after returning to the United States.
-Do not perform tests following a known exposure, if asymptomatic, with some exceptions for specific parameters
-Do not be quarantined following known exposure if asymptomatic
– Refrain from routine screening tests if asymptomatic and feasible

Those last five points are certainly good news for Hollywood guys who travel for work, not to mention on-location productions.
