Longtime NBA TV reporter was 48 – Deadline

Sekou Smith, who has covered professional basketball for more than 20 years, including the last decade and more on NBA TV, died today of Covid-19. He was 48 years old.

Sekou was a popular NBA TV presence managed by Turner Sports, as a TV analyst and writer. He also hosts the podcast NBA suspension time, which takes place three times a week and features the latest league news and stories with NBA guests from around the world.

“The NBA mourns the passing of Sekou Smith, a beloved member of the NBA family,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said today. “Sekou was one of the most affable and dedicated journalists in the NBA and a wonderful friend to so many across the league. … Sekou’s love for basketball was clear to everyone who knew him and it always shone through in his work.

Sekou is survived by his wife, Heather, and their children, Gabriel, Reilly and Cameron.
