The new portrayal of Cortés comes as the Oscar nominee and Emmy winner finds herself at the center of vast political change in the nation. A change in both the White House and the Senate which is in large part thanks to the battle against voter repression led by Stacey Abrams – as recounted in Cortés and Liz Garbus’ All in acclaimed documentary.
After opening in theaters in early fall and premiering on Amazon Prime Video on September 18 of last year, All in is a provocative and illuminating examination of the fragility of American democracy, institutional racism, and voter suppression. In that sense, more timely in recent months than almost anyone might have anticipated, the documentary is also about the ability of people to reclaim their constitutional power and the majesty of the ballot.
In this spirit, Precious and The Apollo Producer Cortés’ next project focuses on another pioneer and barrier breaker, the incomparable and true king of rock ‘n’ roll Little Richard.
