Eleventh Hour Films, supported by Sony, has signed up The crown Lesley Manville star to lead cast for PBS / BritBox crime series Magpie killings, while The full Monty helmer Peter Cattaneo has been appointed director.
Oscar and BAFTA nominee Manville will play Susan Ryeland, an editor-in-chief who is presented with an unfinished manuscript of author Alan Conway’s latest novel, but has no idea it will change her life. Manville said Ryeland is a “fabulous” character, while Cattaneo added, “Anthony has adapted his novel into wonderfully witty and richly layered scripts. Two intelligently intertwined stories and a host of compelling characters directed by Lesley Manville make this an irresistible opportunity for a director.
Manville was nominated for an Oscar for her role in 2018 Phantom wire and will play the role of Princess Margaret in the next two seasons of The crown. Cattaneo, Oscar nominee for The full Monty in 1997, last work on Military wives.
